Happy 2014!

The new year is upon us and many people make resolutions to have healthier diets in the new year.  Did you know there are health benefits associated with eating chocolate.  We’ve highlighted our 5 favorite below.

  • Heart Health: Keep your heart going strong with chocolate! Regular dark chocolate consumers are benefiting their hearts by helping to lower blood pressure, LDL cholesterol levels, and heart disease. It also has inflammation-fighting properties.

  • Keeps you full: If you want to watch your diet, feeling hungry all day is a big barrier.  Because dark chocolate is high in fiber it actually helps you feel full longer.   Do yourself a favor by snacking on a piece of chocolate before binging on other snacks.

  • Protect your skin: It’s hard to think about putting on the sunblock to project your skin in these temperature, but those rays can still get to you.  It has been found that flavonoids in dark chocolate give some protection from UV damage.

  • Boost Your Mood: If you didn’t already know chocolate can boost your mood, now there is proof!  Occasionally indulging your sweet tooth is ok, and can be a great way  to help decrease stress.

  • Improves Vision: Forget the carrots (unless it’s a carrot cake cake pop!), and eat chocolate! Due to the fact that chocolate can help improve your blood flow, especially to the brain, it may also increase the blood flow to the retinas, in turn boosting your vision.

Despite the health benefits of chocolate, we think it’s one great snack to eat, in moderation of course.  It’s also a great way to reward yourself for sticking to those other new year’s resolutions.  We hope to introduce even more unique, gourmet candies for you in 2014.
