It’s the time of year where we are celebrating new beginnings, and with that comes new possibilities. New plans will be made, foundations will be laid and most importantly many things will be cause for even more celebrations. Throughout the year many people will be getting married and couples will embark on a beautiful journey together. Weddings are essentially a big celebration, and with all parties, come sweets and deserts. Two things that are loved early and highly looked forward to. One thing is certain, that there will be cake there at the wedding no matter what happens. Think of it as the standard issue dessert choice for weddings, it’s a tried and true formula which has been going on for years and you can count on it being on the menu in 2017 as well. I recently had the opportunity to attend a wedding of a dear friend whom I’ve known a couple for years and they have been known to try unconventional ideas. The ceremony was beautiful and when the food was served I was surprised that there were a lot of dessert items that were inspired from carnivals and fairs. Cracker jacks, funnel cakes, cotton candies, you name it and it was there! Apparently this is a trend that is catching on quickly and its safe to assume that it will remain popular into the next year as well.

On the other hand, one can assume that an elegant miniature, minimalist approach will be popular as well. Expect to see smaller dessert items such as cupcakes, chocolate truffles, pretzels, macarons and more on the dessert table. The miniature theme is pretty popular in other cuisines as well so expect to see to see that carry over into desserts. Sampling a few miniature desserts is a fun way to indulge, and not feel like you are going overboard!

Another fun idea that is popular is the ‘Do-It-Yourself’ stations. Everybody has different tastes and preferences when it comes to food, making it hard to cater to them all, especially when desserts are concerned. An easy, yet practical solution is to give the option to the person themselves, allowing them to make the dessert to their liking. I have heard about this idea at a few different weddings, and it sounds very fun twist. Besides, who wouldn’t love to see a chocolate fountain! With this option, you can have all sorts of different desserts, fruits, and other options for dipping. You can rest assured that there will be many a satisfied sweet tooth at your wedding if you choose to go this route.
